  AVOIDING A SHEPHERDING CALL: Suggestions pls

  yup got a voice mail bright and early this morning "grumblecakes, we would like to schedule a shepherding call".. how do i get outta this?.

  How badly do you think you would do? How far along in your fade are you? Keep in mind turning down a shep call will put you on the radar. Stopping service then turning down 'loving encouragement' from the elders? Apostadar goes BEEP BEEP BEEP. Especially after the vile hate speech apostates talk at the DC.

  My wife and I had one around November I think... I decided to go through with it. I explained that I'm doing fine, thanked the brothers for their concern and told them I'd start service again when I'm ready. Which is course is never.

  Best thing I ever did. Never was asked again for a report slip or given a talk slip. It was actually a huge help to my fade. No more 'missed you on Saturday' or anything.

  Just something to consider. After the boys read you the guilt/fear/obligation act, they're out of ideas if they don't smell apostate. You'll either fade from their minds as being taken care of, or you'll be a fish they don't want to fry.

  Do you have a CO visit coming up? If so then you just have to make it through a couple more before he stops asking about you.

  SBF.... Wow.... Materialism assumes materialism and therefore if circular and requires faith? Hmm. No.

  Does assuming materialism mean assuming the non supernatural? Material can assume material, because material can be proven with evidence. No need for the assumption that god did it any more than we need to assume aliens did it. You, in that statement are the one inserting the supernatural. You wanna talk about circular?

  If god leaves the story of Adam and Eve as a matter of faith rather than provide a flood of evidence... Why doesn't he at least provide a scrap of evidence that could at least try? Why make a person of faith ignore a mountain of evidence to the contrary in order to believe? How loving is that?

  Cofty hit the nail on the head. Science makes god redundant. He was a fine explanation for the unexplainable for thousands of years, but we don't need sky daddy anymore. The bible is simply contradictory of fact. It is incompatible with what we can readily see and prove on earth. If god is so powerful, why not give us a better book? One that doesn't need to be excused away constantly.

  Proof of Noah's Flood - Presently watching a Documentary about Europe & the Ice Age

  first time i ever heard anyone say there was 'proof' of noah's flood.. very interesting,.

  showed a trawler, where the team dredges regularly in the north sea - for animal bones, massive land animal bones, mammoths.. he said, originally, the bones were sent for analysis, and the dr stated, they were proof of noah's flood.. the north sea area was a land mass of dry grazing lands.

  and it was very similar to africa.. many bones were found in london, of lions, hippos, etc ... when they were digging out the underground.. .

  I was shaking from anger in my seat at the DC during this talk. I couldn't help but be visibly pissed off.

  It's disgusting the way they shrug off the responsibility onto their imaginary deity. "It's Jehovah's arrangement" they say. "We must remain loyal to Jehovah" they say. Not a word about the loyalty they expect themselves to their cult. This whole DC was very cultish. 3 days of nonsense about "truth" and not a word about how to actually distinguish truth from untruth.

  Basically if its said from the platform or in one of the pubs, its true. If it disagrees, it's untrue. Oh yah and apostates are mentally diseased, and only lie all the time. Their words are Satans, you don't want to listen to Satans words do you?! Disgusting.

  when i first came to this site.

  whenever i would try to talk about somethign from the bible that the jw's got wrong or reason on a scripture that had so much feeling you would stomp all over it.

  talking about "flying spaghetti gods" and laugh at what seemed to be my expense and then leave the thread never to return and add any substance.

  Hi Confused,

  While some of us can be a bit brutal at times, we've all been through exactly what you're talking about. It can be a bit brutal to hear at first, but once you see the bible for what it is, it's hard to see someone asking honest questions about the bible. The best answers they can get are still people's opinions. The bible still needs interpretation. Could the creator of the universe not write a book that we could understand?

  Another poster mentioned The Atheist Experience on YouTube. For me it was watching debate after debate on YouTube with Chris Hitchens or Richard Dawkins debating theistic "scientists." Time after time the theists' arguments were dismantled in a logical fashion, then torn down.

  What also helped me was reading the bible honestly. Try this: read right from Gen 1:1 with open eyes. Don't read anything into it, and don't make any excuses for it. See how many chapters you can get through before you're an atheist too.

  ive got a few irons in the fire but i am always game for new ideas.. what do you do?.

  The first order of business would be to spend less. I don't mean be so tigh people make jokes, jut see if you can spend $500 less every month, and put that into savings. Where do you live? US? Canada?

  For most of us, if our income goes up our expenses do too.

  What do you usually do for work? Can you switch jobs to a better paying one? Easier said than done of course...

  there are many silly doctines and viewpoints.. one of the strangest ones is the blood doctrine.. why anyone could logically accept this belief is beyond reason..

  Most absurd - all of their teachings regarding the flood. They teach that: Noah actually existed, and was as old as the bible says he was. Nephilim were real. The earth has a vapour barrier,or "water canopy" around it. Animals were not mean, and didn't eat meat. Neither did humans. Noah preached about Jehovah and the coming flood when he wasn't busy chopping trees down and building a 450 foot long boat. Which in their paintings is the shape of a chocolate bar. Jehovah then had two of EVERY species of animal on earth come and fit into this boat. The flood waters came, covered all of the earth even the highest mountains. Noah still did Family Worship on the ark.

  Oh, and this was only 4500 years ago.

  They teach all of these things as fact, they even still have articles and talks about it. Even the water canopy thing and that animals didn't eat meat. Wow.

  Not their most absurd by impossibility, but most harmful would be the blood doctrine. I cringe when I wonder what could have happened had I or someone close to me been seriously injured and needed blood.

  hi folks.

  i apologize if this is old news to some, but it's news to me.. i stumbled on a comprehensive list of all the sold properties on wikipedia on this link... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/watch_tower_bible_and_tract_society_of_pennsylvania#brooklyn_property_sales.

  it's just a mind-boggling amount of money, and useful information to have handy when talking to witness relatives.

  Only 10 years? Hmm...

  This money is most likely already called for. Running that operation must be a HUGE expense. Think, if they were to stop having assemblies, for instance. They would likely starve. Not only that, but how much do you expect their new cult commune Warwick project is going to cost, even with free labour?

  What would be nice to see is them not being able to build it quick enough, or not having the budget to finish. Will they ask the JWs for money to help build it? We're talking about a huge project here. Personally I see it as a big mistake. I hope they crash and burn.

  They're cashing in on their properties while they can. They have a negative world view, especially in regards to the future. Look at how many branches have been sold or closed in the past 5 years.. They are tightening their belts. Perhaps they fear the next recession will hit them hard? They have a huge increase in overhead coming, and it would be a shame to be stuck with the Brooklyn properties when they want to sell them during the next recession.

  i watched a great documentary on netflix about the human family tree i highly recommend.. i also joined the genographic project they have.

  i am really looking forward to seeing my sons ancestry since it will be the same as mine.

  it will be an awesome gift to give him one day in high school when he is studying early humans and genetics.

  i am new to here so please be bear with me.. i have always believed in god, but was never baptised, my parents wanted me to make up my own mind religon wise.. i am thinking of becoming a jw and am just needing some advice on how to do this, bible study and jw beliefs.
